Hello and welcome,
My name is Maria, the photographer and founder of Maria Jan Photography, a newborn and family photography studio based in the Western Suburbs of Victoria.
For over a decade, I have specialised in creating timeless, elegant portraits of newborns, babies and families, capturing the fleeting moments that pass far too quickly in the early days of parenthood.
My journey with photography began in 2008 while travelling through Mexico and Cuba. Surrounded by history, architecture and culture, I discovered the power of photography to preserve moments and tell stories that last a lifetime.
But it was after the birth of my own children that I truly discovered my passion for newborn photography. Those quiet, delicate moments — tiny fingers, peaceful expressions and the gentle connection between parent and child — inspired me to dedicate my work to documenting the beginning of life.
In 2014, I created Maria Jan Photography, named after my three children — Johan, Alexa and Noah — who remain my greatest inspiration.
Today, I welcome families into my home studio where every session is designed to be calm, safe and meaningful. My goal is to create beautiful, timeless images that your family will treasure for generations.

My Style
All of my sessions take place in my warm and welcoming home studio, designed to create a calm and comfortable experience for both parents and their little ones.
My studio is truly my happy place — a peaceful, cozy environment where families can relax while I gently capture beautiful moments. I use carefully selected vintage-inspired props and professional studio equipment, combined with soft natural light to create images that feel timeless and natural.
My photography style is authentic, soft and natural, with a subtle vintage touch and delicate pops of colour. I focus on the tiny details and fleeting expressions that make each baby so unique — the little moments that pass so quickly but mean so much.
To me, every baby’s journey is extraordinary and deserves to be beautifully documented. Whether you are expecting your little one or simply wish to update your family portraits, my goal is to create photographs that tell your story in a timeless and meaningful way.
It would be my honour to capture these moments for you — memories that you and your family will cherish and relive for many years to come.
When to schedule?
We usually recommend taking pictures of newborns up to two weeks, when the baby has enough flexibility for the most beautiful poses, in addition, newborns sleep more hours in a row. However, we accommodate baby's up to four weeks, with some pose limitations.
We strongly recommend that you book your newborn session during pregnancy to guarantee a space.
